Race Courses and Marks

The Race Officer will be responsible for designating a course suitable for the current, wind strength and direction and competitors taking part.  In addition to the start mark, “A”, and possibly an inner limit mark, there will be up to 9 buoys laid semi-permanently. 5 of these buoys are laid in a wide arc off the harbour. Additional buoys will be laid inside these to allow designation of shorter courses.

Click the image to the right to see the planned locations using the Google Maps Engine.

The course for the day will be displayed on the white board in the Race Office. The Race Officer should designate the marks of the course by letter in the order of rounding and by drawing a line depicting the course.  In order to get races started on time it is suggested that Race Officers and Safety Officers should be at the Club at least one hour before racing  is due to start. Competitors should be on the water 5 minutes before the designated start time for the same reason.
Sample course configurations are provided in the following document.
