 Grenville's Memorial Sail
Saturday 21 June 2025

Grenville’s Memorial Sail (and row, paddle, swim) is in memory of past member Grenville Robinson whose presence is greatly missed by those that knew him. The event takes place annually for members and involves a passage of dinghies, cruisers and rowing skiffs from the club, round Chanonry Point to Rosemarkie for lunch at the Beach Cafe.  It is one of the Club’s largest social gathering of the year.

Swimmers and paddlers are encouraged to join in the fun with a swim and/or paddle in Rosemarkie Bay. Partners of members are very welcome to attend, as is anyone who just wants to come to socialise.

Note that there is a £10 per head contribution for lunch payable through the web site or by cheque to the Treasurer. If paying by cash, please pay Calum Pearson at the cafe, not at the start.

Please sign up on the club calendar so we can get an idea of numbers. There is a separate sign up for rowers making the passage. Everyone else should sign up here.

The start time: you should plan to arrive at Rosemarkie beach at about 12:30. Depending on your boat and the wind and tide you may need to leave Fortrose not long after 11:00. The return departure time is approximately 14:30.

Plan A is to leave the Club at the published start time and sail to Rosemarkie Bay for a soup and sandwich lunch (very kindly supported by Helen Robinson & Family) at the Rosemarkie Beach Cafe. Safety boats accompanying the dinghies will offer a water taxi service for cruisers anchoring offshore.

Plan B, if the weather is unsuitable the passage round the point, is to walk/drive to Rosemarkie Beach arriving at around 12.30 where we can meet with the swimmers and paddlers.

Responsibility

The responsibility for anyone's decision to participate in this excursion is theirs alone.  The Club endeavours to provide two of its safety boats to accompany the fleet which inevitably will become quite well spread. If a boat's crew gets into difficulties the priority for the safety boats will be to remove the crew members from the boat and get them to safety.  Any boats abandoned will be marked to say so and may be recovered later once all sailors are known to be safe.

Contribution to costs

The Committee has decided that while Helen Robinson supports the event very generously it is also appropriate for participants in the lunch to contribute to the costs by £10.00 per head. The online payment option is available below.
If you don't pre-pay, then please seek out a committee member on the day or do so retrospectively. The Treasurer will be happy to receive cheques!
