COX Training
Coastal rowing in St Ayles skiffs requires a cox to steer and take charge of the boat. Chanonry Sailing Club has developed a two day introduction to coxing course which aims to develop the skills of rowers to cox safely and independently during rowing in home waters.
Day 1 is classroom based and covers sea safety, local navigation, weather and tides, use of VHF and rowing commands. It is largely classroom based but with some outside practice and observation.
Day 2 is an on the water day putting theory into practice. There is plenty of opportunity for everyone to practice preparing the boat, launching and recovery, decision making, steering and commands and making sure that everyone has fun safely. It also includes a man over board practice, anchoring and towing.
We will run cox training once per year, subject to demand. If you are interested contact [email protected].
