Events and Member Duties

The Club could not function without members acting as Race Officer, Safety Boat Crew, Instructors, Catering Team, in maintenance work parties and in other roles, including the Committee. Volunteers are always welcome.
The duty rota and notifications are managed on the Dutyman Web site (click to login and use your forename and surname as the username)
A Quick Reference guide "How to login to Dutyman" is here.

This page displays the list of events and duties from today. Click here for a duty rota that displays the list of events and duties for the whole calendar year.

While we are Restarting Sailing in 2021 the Safety duties for initial Recreational Sailing events will be managed using TEAMUP. If you want to volunteer as a household or COVID Bubble please email sailing@chanonry.org.uk.

Duty Swapping Guide

When filling any gaps remaining after most club members have volunteered for duties on dates of their choice, it is inevitable some individuals will find they are rostered on days for which they already have commitments. When this occurs, it is important to re-allocate duties reliably while avoiding an unmanageable administrative burden on the volunteers who look after the roster.

The Dutyman system has a user-friendly interface for requesting swaps and this should be used in the first instance. Simply log into Dutyman, click on the 'Request a duty swap' link, and follow the instructions.

Please only contact the Dutyman administrator to swap duties in the following circumstances:
  • You have requested a duty swap through Dutyman but you are unable to swap because you are not free on any of the available dates.
  • You would like to swap for a duty that has not yet been allocated (it is not possible to swap with a 'blank' duty through Dutyman).
  • You would like to be removed from an allocated duty and for a specific reason feel unable to undertake a replacement.
Thank you for following these guidelines that will minimize the risk of problems occurring with swaps and also ease the load on the volunteers administering the Dutyman system.

FAQ: Duty Roster

Q1. Is there minimum number of duties?

A. No. There is no minimum or maximum number of duties. Please feel relaxed when volunteering duties. The members in our club appreciate your any size of help, of course.

Q2. Is it “First login (to Dutyman), the best choices for volunteering”?

A. Yes. There is no way for us to stop keen members from volunteering themselves to the duties. If you need a help using the dutyman system, please contact sailing@chanonry.org.uk

Q3. Can I swap duties?

A. Yes.  All the flexibility in our Dutyman system including swapping and standing-in the duties is unchanged. What is changing in our Dutyman system is that duties are no longer allocated to the members without asking.

Q4. Can I help something else?

A. There are varieties of volunteering opportunities in our club.
For catering help, please contact Social convener (social@chanonry.org.uk).
For other help, please contact Membership secretary (membership@chanonry.org.uk).

Q5. Who can volunteer to the Safety officer, Assistant Safety officer and Race officer duties?

A. Any members can volunteer to the duties and their volunteering is highly appreciated. (Terms & conditions apply. Contact sailing@chanonry.org.uk)

Q6. If there is a remaining duty, what will happen?

A. If there is a remaining duty, the Sailing Sub Committee will re-ask the membership if anyone can do the duty at its nearer time. If the duty is still vacant, a decision will be made by competitors and duty officers on the day.
