CHANONRY ROWING

We love coastal rowing at Chanonry, and it's an easy way to get out on the water in the company of others. You don't even need to buy any special equipment or clothing. All ages and abilities can row, we have an adapted seat in one boat. We provide a variety of opportunities from short social rows (with a cup of tea in the clubhouse after), longer rows to Chanonry Point, Rosemarkie or Avoch or more energetic training sessions. There are also opportunities to take part in expeditions or regattas.

We row in our club built St Ayles skiffs, Chanonry Maid

and Silver Darling, from the clubhouse at Fortrose Harbour.  With four oars and a Cox there are great opportunities for all ages to keep fit and active all year round.

START ROWING

Regular open rowing sessions are held throughout the year. All sessions are shown on the calendar below.

You can organise your own rowing session as long as the crew includes an approved cox. They will be able to book out the boat on Teamup.

We welcome rowers of all ages from all over the Highlands. You don't need to be super fit or able to get out on the water with us. If you have any particular needs let us know and we'll try to work out how best to get you out. We have a boat with an adaptive seat for people with limited core strength. Most of our activity is social rowing at a pace and level to suit those going out. Children over 12 years can attend as per our child involvement guidelines.

Membership is very affordable and you can take part in any club activities. There are no session charges.

Come and Try

We offer Come and Try sessions for anyone interested in giving rowing a go before joining. Email [email protected] to organise your session.

BOOK ROWING

It's simple to sign up to a rowing session. In the calendar simply click on the session you'd like to attend. Click Signup and then add your name and email address. You can also add comments. If you change your mind and want to cancel then email [email protected] and we'll remove it. Before each session check there are enough rowers to go ahead. If in doubt, comment on Teamup or WhatsApp, email the event organiser or [email protected].

You can organise your own rowing session as long as you have an approved cox. They will be able to book out the boat on Teamup.

We also recommend you join the Chanonry Coastal Rowing Facebook group to keep up to date with and share news of our activities. There is also a regular rowing email bulletin for members who wish to opt in. We have a WhatsApp group which is useful for last minute communications. Contact [email protected] if you'd like to join.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT ROWING

More information about rowing technique and our health and safety documents are on the Rowing Information and Documents page.

CALENDAR

The calendar below shows all the club activities. The rowing sessions are in purple.

The link to the calendars for your browser is https://teamup.com/ksmfmpu874sbbfqhws. You can also use this link on the Teamup app for mobile which is very handy for booking on the go.

WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING

You may get wet, up to your knees. Wear stuff that can get wet on your feet and legs. Old trainers, sandals, Crocs etc. Wellies can work if there are not too many waves. On top wear loose, warm, comfortable clothing, preferably synthetic or wool. Gloves can be helpful, sailing or cycling gloves will work. A waterproof top will keep the wind and rain out. The club can provide lifejackets which must be worn on the water at all times. Showers, changing facilities and a galley for making hot drinks are available in the clubhouse.
