Our Sociable Club - Social Events and Clubhouse Refreshments

Members are welcome to spend time in the Clubroom before and after racing and at any other time it is not being otherwise used ( check the Club calendar if unsure) – please make sure that you leave the clubhouse tidy and safe (electrical sockets and heaters switched off) and lock the front door if you are the last one out.

Catering:  As well as catering for events we keep a stock of self-service tea and coffee “makings” and other drinks and snacks. There is an honesty box on the galley counter and a price list on the wall above the snacks. There may not always be fresh milk in the fridge so if you don’t like UHT bring some with you.

The Bar: The Club has to apply for a bar licence every time we want to open the bar for the sale of alcohol. We can have up to 12 licences a year and have to apply for these at least 6 weeks in advance.

Having a Party?  Did you know that you can book the Clubroom? There is a charge (available on request) and it will be your responsibility to make sure that the clubhouse is left clean and tidy. If you would like to find out more contact the Social Convener at [email protected].

What does the Social Convener do?

He or she :
  • Is one of the elected Officers of the Club
  • Is responsible for the galley equipment including budgeting for new equipment as needed.
  • Arranges catering for the Club’s sailing events - this includes “closed” events such as the Dinghy Championships and One-day events and “Open” events such as the Dinghy and Cruiser Regattas and Ness Cup.
  • Arranges for routine stocking of the “self-service” drinks and snacks in the galley – a busy job as we seem to have a junior membership consisting mostly of gannets!
  • Arranges occasional Social events such as Quiz nights.
  • Applies for bar licences
  • Keeps the bar stocked.
  • Liaises with the club cleaner.
  • Makes sure that there are loo rolls, hand towels and hand soap (wow, that’s exciting!)

All this is a lot for one person to do and the Social Convener needs the help of other members, both on a routine basis with day-to-day stocks and on an occasional basis in the galley at events. If you are able to help please contact the Social Convener at [email protected].
