OPEN YACHT RACING EVENTS

There are 3 major race events at Chanonry, each with its own cup that, in addition to Club boats, often attracts participants from Inverness, Cromarty, Invergordon, Lossiemouth and Nairn as well as other visiting yachts:
  • The Chanonry Cruiser Regatta: A Regatta open to all keelboats with a big turnout from neighbouring clubs encouraged. Two races for two classes are involved; Fast Handicap and Slow Handicap using CYCA yardsticks.
  • The RNLI Ness Cup: Open event for cruisers and dinghies, takes place on a challenging course encompassing much of the Inverness Firth. Competition for the Ness Cup trophy is restricted to boats owned by Club members. There is a race fee all of which is donated to the RNLI.
  • The Black Isle Challenge: Recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. This open race is followed by an informal prize-giving and end-of-season social event.
Chanonry is a long-term supporter of the Moray Firth Yacht Axis race series. This comprises the events listed above plus additional races organised by our neighbouring sailing clubs at Cromarty, Nairn and Invergordon. These races are detailed in the programme of events noted on the Moray Yacht Axis page.
