RACE OFFICER TRAINING

30/4/2014

The club is totally reliant upon volunteers to run all its activities and we do provide training and support for those who undertake duties. We have 2 training events scheduled for club level Race Officers. The first is a day course on Saturday, 3 May from 1000 – 1600 which assumes no prior knowledge of the subject and covers:

A brief introduction to the RYA Racing Charter & Racing Rules of Sailing
Understanding the club standing sailing instructions
      Course setting
Running a shore line start including how to postpone, re-start and run recalls
       How to finish a race
       Dealing with protests
       Safety aspects
Tips for setting-up the Starter's Box for single handed operation
Use of the Race Officer's equipment including the fixed radio
       Use of the results form
Calculating the result in long hand and with Sailwave

The 2nd event is an evening refresher for existing ROs on Thursday, 8 May from 1900 – 2130. This will cover:
 Course setting
 Starting & Finishing
 Safety aspects
 Calculating the results with Sailwave
Both courses will use the club’s race simulator and the full day course will also spend some time at the Starter’s Box. There is no charge for either course but you do need to sign-up via training@chanonry.org.uk
