Club RNLI Open Day / RNLI Lifeboat Day
Saturday 18 MAY 2019   11:30 - 15:30

Picture
The Club will hold our annual Open Day on Saturday May 18th in association with the local Chanonry and District Branch of the RNLI between 11:30 and 15:30.

The Club will be open to visitors and the day will form part of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) ”Push the Boat Out” national initiative (www.rya.org.uk/ptbo @RYAScotland ) which is all about getting out on the water and discovering sailing and other water based activities.

Activities will include:
  • Welcoming the Invergordon and North Kessock RNLI Lifeboats into the harbour just before high water, at around 12:30. You'll be welcome to chat to the crew and take a look on board.
  • Weather dependent, there will be come and try it sessions on the water:
    • For dinghy sailing we hope to have 4 double hander dinghies on the water giving an opportunity to try sailing;
    • Our two St Ayles Rowing skiffs will demonstrate coastal rowing and give taster sessions for those interested in having a go at this fast growing sport;
    • The Club Safety team will offer trips around Fortrose bay in the Club Safety boats;
    • A keelboat presence is also expected in the harbour around high tide and you might like to have a look on board one of these and imagine what life cruising the West coast or even up to Shetland would be like.
    • Note participants in activities will be invited to make a donation to the RNLI
If you want to give the activities a go please bring a suitable change of clothing for getting wet feet and keeping warm on the water (old trainers and track suit bottoms, and multiple layers for the upper body); the Club will provide appropriate safety gear. Please note, for all activities participants must be of at least of 8 years of age, and those aged under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult during the activity. One of the club’s safety boats will be on the water in a dedicated safety role.

In the clubhouse the local Chanonry and District Branch of the RNLI will provide refreshments, lunch, stalls and merchandise to raise much needed funds. Click here or on the poster image above to download a copy for printing.

Club members will be on hand to answer questions about what it is like to be a member of the friendliest sailing club in the north of Scotland! Information about training and learning to sail will also be available.
