2012
Scottish Youth Series - Dinghy Sailing Regatta

Results

69 boats took part in the first SYS Regatta to be held at Chanonry Sailing Club.

Day 1 - a day of light to F2 winds steady for a time from the SW allowing 1 race to be completed and the second to be started in dropping pressure but strong tide leading to abandonment and restart after about an hour when the wind switched 180 degrees to NE allowing a restart of the 2nd Main Fleet race. A third race was completed before the fleets sailed home for a well earned rest and a tasty meal in the club house.

The Regatta fleet fared less well with generally less wind than the main fleet. 3 races were completed on each of the two race tracks thanks to dedication and speed from the safety crews and mark layers.

Day 2 dawned with a light (especially for the Regatta Fleet race track) and variable wind. The Main Fleets started in a light northerly with a strong left to right ebbing tide. Unfortunately as the wind came and went time was slipping away and no fleet managed to complete the course in time, the RO judging that it was not fair to shorten the course at an intermediate mark. Then began a period of nearly 2 hours waiting for wind.  At times it settled into a F1 SW'ly but the ebbing tide was too much and although a couple of quick course re-lays were done the RO decided to pull the plug at 14:00 and sent the fleets home with no more races completed.

The Regatta Fleet had a similarly frustrating day but did manage to complete one race.

The support of our sponsors was recognised at the prize giving and competitors had no hesitation in thanking everyone involved; Race Team, Beach Team, Safety Team and last but not least the Galley Team.

Congratulations to all the prize and spot prize winners.
