Club Facilities - Safety Boats
The Club owns two 5 metre Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RIBs) manufactured by Humber and powered by Yamaha outboard engines. The RIBs, referred to as NESS (old one) and BEAULY (new one), were commissioned in July 2007 and March 2010 respectively and are available for use by members in connection with Club activities. The RIBs are most often used to provide safety boat cover at Club events. When only one safety boat is required, NESS should be used during the week, and BEAULY at weekends to help ensure even usage of both.
Members using the RIBs should be suitably experienced and trained. For details of powerboat training available at the Club please contact the Training Principal.
Separate logbooks are maintained in respect of NESS and BEAULY. These are located in the race office and should be written up after use of the RIBs to record any matters which require the attention of the Safety Boat Convenor in due course. If more urgent action is needed, please contact the Safety Boat Convenor, or the Sailing Secretary by telephone or email.
Details of Safety Officer duties are set out in the Duties section. The Club encourages safety boat crews to undertake RYA powerboat handling, safety boat and first aid courses. Safety boat skills training will be offered by our qualified volunteer Power/ Safety Boat Instructors. Members who are interested in this should contact Helen Jenner. For members who reach the required standards, RYA powerboat and safety boat certificates can be issued.
A document detailing all the Club facilities is available for download on the Document Library page.
