The Club is a Royal Yachting Association Recognized Training Centre
As such it is inspected annually. It owns 8 dinghies and 2 powerboats which are available for training purposes. Several members hold RYA instructor qualifications and instruct on a volunteer basis. The Club is able to run various RYA training courses and issue RYA certificates which are recognized throughout the world.

During 2008 the Club will run RYA courses aimed at introducing children and adults to dinghy sailing. It will also run an RYA Start Racing course and coaching for those who participate in dinghy racing at improver level. Anyone interested in these courses should contact Richard Jenner for further details.

POWERBOAT TRAINING will be available on demand to anyone who volunteers for, or is allocated, Club Safety Boat duties. For details of training available in powerboat driving and rescue strategies and techniques, please contact:

INFORMAL DINGHY TRAINING SUNDAY AM

On 5 Sunday mornings highlighted above there will be an opportunity for some informal (that is not to a specific certificate standard) dinghy training. The sessions will be from 0930 – 1230 at the cost of £5/session and each must be booked in advance by contacting Richard Jenner (r.h.jenner-at-btinternet.com). The sessions are aimed mainly at the novice sailors without their own boats and who are unable to attend one of the formal courses. However, if space is available (the space will be limited to ensure adequate supervision & safety) others may join-in who wish to improve.

ADULT DINGHY TRAINING

Due to demand from recently joined members, the adult dinghy training (up to Level 2) has been reintroduced in the 2008 programme over 5 Saturdays as detailed above. While it is advisable to take advantage of all 5 days, given suitable weather it should be possible to achieve a Level 2 standard in 4 days so if one of the dates is not suitable for you, contact Richard Jenner anyway (r.h.jenner-at-btinternet.com) to book a place.

SHOREBASED TRAINING PROGRAMME

Shore-based training is conducted during the winter months. If there is enough interest, the Club can organize any RYA shore-based course ranging from Yachtmaster Off-shore to Diesel Maintenance. The Training Principal will poll members for input in August and the programme will be published (web-site & notice boards) in late September. Wintertime is also when most maintenance is done on Club boats and help is much appreciated!
