Volvo Champion Club
We were presented with our Volvo Champion Club plaque on 10th August 2011 by Adam McGovern, RYA Scotland Club & Pathway Development Officer. This and a large flag plus loads of coaching support material were accepted on behalf of the Club by Richard Evans accompanied by the 11 participants in a 3 day Junior Race Coaching event.
Recognised Training Centre
The Club is a Royal
Yachting Association Recognised Training Centre
As such it is inspected annually. It owns 7 dinghies and has access to 4 more plus 2 powerboats which are available for training purposes. We are fortunate in having 16 members who hold current RYA instructor or coach qualifications and instruct or coach on a volunteer basis. The Club is able to run various formal RYA training courses and issue RYA certificates which are recognized throughout the world and additionally provides instructor or coach led opportunities to develop skills. The Club’s ethos is to offer training to members at a fraction of the price charged commercially without compromising on quality.
During 2011 the Club will again run RYA courses aimed at introducing children and adults to dinghy sailing and the programme is available via the link at the bottom of this page. Building on the success of Chanonry Dolphins introduced last year to provide Stage 1 juniors with regular evening opportunities to gain more time on the water, we are introducing Chanonry Champs which will provide evening coaching for the more advanced juniors keen to compete.
Our Chief Coach (Richard Evans) is interested in hearing from anyone who would like some improver sessions. Anyone interested in formal dinghy courses should contact Richard Jenner for further details.
The Club actively promotes powerboat courses (Level 2 and Safety Boat) for members keen to help with safety on the water and prices this training at the ‘break even’ rate. We also offer continuation or refresher powerboat training – please let Helen Jenner know if you wish to attend any of these courses or training sessions

Shore-based Training Programme
Shore-based training is conducted during the winter months. If there is enough interest, the Club can organize any RYA shore-based course ranging from Yachtmaster Off-shore to Diesel Maintenance. We can also arrange for informal training or talks on most boat related topics. The Training Principal polls members for input in August and the programme is published (web-site & notice boards) in late September. Wintertime is also when most maintenance is done on Club boats and help is much appreciated!
