KEY INFORMATION
INVOLVEMENT OF CHILDREN
All children under 16 must be accompanied by a
parent/guardian or a responsible adult (i.e. a person over 18) who is in
loco parentis for the child(ren). It will not be acceptable for parents to
drop their children off and assume that the person organising the event is
automatically responsible for the welfare of unaccompanied children. This
policy has been implemented based upon advice received from RYA Scotland and
is believed to be in the best interests of both the children and the club.
The co-operation of all parents in this matter will be appreciated.
CHILD PROTECTION
The club applies the Child Protection guidelines given by the Highland
Council in their publication “Child Protection Policies for your Community
Group” (Edition 3). There is a copy of this policy in the Race Office on the
ground floor of the Clubhouse. The club’s Child Protection Monitor is Dr
Helen Robinson (Tel. 01381 620243). If you have concerns that a child is at
risk or is being abused in any way, you must contact the Child Protection
Monitor. The NSPCC also has a confidential telephone help line for adults
who are concerned that a child has been abused on 0808-800 5000. Children
who feel at risk can ring the confidential Childline for advice on
0800-1111.
RYA RACING CHARTER
The RYA has launched a major new initiative aimed at trying to retain
racing sailors in our sport and to recognise that whether we are
participants in a race or organising the race, everyone has the right to
enjoy the sport. The RYA Racing Charter is in the new version of the RYA
Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008 and is a set of guidelines designed to
help make racing more fun, fair and welcoming for competitors and organisers
at all levels. The Charter promotes good rule observance, encourages good
sportsmanship, and good communication between competitors and organisers.
The RYA believes that these basic principles will lead to bigger and better
racing at clubs and in the classes and if competitors and race organisers
understand what is expected of each other, it will promote high quality,
accessible and enjoyable racing for everybody.
Chanonry Sailing Club implement the RYA Racing Charter and competitors will
be required to undertake to sail in compliance with the Charter, which can
be found at the front of the RYA rule book or at
www.rya.org.uk/racing/charter.
