The Committee is responsible
for the overall running of the Club on behalf of the members. It meets
regularly to consider major issues affecting the Club. Elections for
committee members are held annually. All Committee members are
volunteers and rely on help and support from the members to keep the
Club’s activities going. Members with issues they want discussed in the
Committee are encouraged to speak to any committee member with their
concerns. Committee members have designated roles and designated
responsibilities (see Contacts page for details) – they cannot run the
Club without help and will ask for volunteers from time to time – please
help if you can.
Training Principal
The Training Principal is responsible for planning and co-ordinating the
Club’s extensive training programme and events. The Club is an RYA
Recognised Training Centre and the Training Principal, responsible for
the safety of those involved in training and for the standard of
tuition, answers to both the Committee and the RYA. The Training
Principal appoints the Chief Instructor and the volunteer instructors
who all hold the appropriate RYA qualifications. The RYA inspects the
Club’s Training Centre annually.
Sailing Secretary
The Sailing Secretary is responsible for organising the Club's annual
racing programme and other sailing events. This involves planning the
programme and overseeing race management and delegating tasks as
necessary.
Social Convenor
The Social Convenor is responsible for the social aspects of the Club's
activities. This involves organising social events to keep members in
touch with the Club and providing the social side of major sailing
events during the summer. The Social Convenor also organises catering
for events with a team of helpers.
Members
The Club could not function without members acting as Race Officer,
Safety Boat Crew, Instructors, Catering Team, in maintenance work
parties or in other roles. In the Club’s Programme of events members are
assigned to duties according to the Committee’s knowledge of members’
skills and in as equitable a manner as is practical. If you are unable
to do an assigned duty, please find a swap/ replacement and let the
Sailing Secretary or Training Principal know, as appropriate.
