CHARGES FOR
TRAINING COURSES, CLUB SAILING AND
USE OF CLUB DINGHIES 2008
TRAINING COURSES
To take part in training courses run by the Club you need to be a member
in one of the following categories:
Family; Ordinary; Student or Junior.
(as defined in the Club Constitution
– see
http://www.chanonry.org.uk)
Charges for most training are well below the commercial rates chiefly
because the club instructors give their time and expertise free of
charge. Charges therefore are contributions to the running costs of
courses - fuel for powerboats and boat maintenance costs etc. Some
courses require the Club to hire commercial instructors or examiners;
because the Club does not seek to make an operating profit from these
courses, they too are well below commercial rates.
CHARGES FOR PRACTICAL TRAINING COURSES IN 2008
To take part in
practical training courses run by the Club you must be a member in one
of these categories – Family, Ordinary, Student or Junior.

CLUB SAILING
The Club owns a number of dinghies used mainly for
training. The fleet currently includes 3 Optimists, 3 RS Teras and 2
GP14s. They may only be used when there is Safety Boat cover. They are
available for use by members with suitable experience (equivalent to RYA
Level 2) following satisfactory completion of an induction session
(contact the Training Principal or Sailing Secretary). Use is on a first
come first served basis and must be noted in the Club boat record book
in the race office and paid for in advance. Failure to
comply with these conditions of use will jeopardise that member’s future
use of Club boats.
There is a charge towards maintenance/ replacement of £5
per single-hander and £10 per GP14 (different charges apply on Friday
Club sailing evenings – see below) – to be placed in the clearly marked
box in the Race Office.
Please note the strict requirements, laid
down in the handbook, for responsible adults to accompany all
children sailing under the age of 16.
FRIDAY
CLUB EVENINGS ARE CHANGING - PLEASE READ THIS
In
2008 Friday evening sailing will be organised as follows:
Friday evenings are an opportunity for members to sail with safety cover
but without the pressures of racing. They are not a training activity.
If the Safety Officer feels that conditions are unsuitable he or she
will either not launch the Safety Boat or will withdraw safety cover if
conditions deteriorate. He or she will do this AFTER informing the
sailors on the water and giving them enough time to return to shore.
Adults sailing their own dinghies who wish to do so may, of course,
continue to sail at their own risk, however, all Club dinghies must be
returned to the shore. Parents or adults in loco parentis for juniors
out in their own boats are responsible for deciding whether their junior
may continue – the Safety Boat crew can relay messages if necessary.
The organiser will be responsible for opening-up and locking-up the
Club, preparing sign on/sign off sheets, keeping radio contact with the
Safety Boat and checking that everyone is signed off the water at the
end of the session. They will also take a note of members using the Club
Dinghies, registering that they are competent (see below) if it is that
sailor’s first Friday evening of the season and take money for use of
the Club dinghies.
On Friday 25 April there will be an onshore session for juniors who wish
to sail the Club dinghies and their parents. This will be to demonstrate
and practise rigging/ de-rigging the Optimists and Teras. After this
there will be no instructor rostered.
Members may sail their own boats at no charge. Their guests are
welcome, but will be expected to join the Club after 3 sessions if they
wish to continue.
Members wanting to sail Club boats will be subject to the
following conditions:
-
Parents of juniors will still be responsible for
their children and must either stay at the Club or nominate a
suitable adult to act “in loco parentis”.
-
There will be a charge of £3 per person per session.
(Sea Cadets or Sea Scouts wishing to use the Tera dinghies as part
of a cadet or scout organised activity will not be charged).
-
On the 1st Friday they attend, members
will be required to produce a Stage 2 / Level 2 certificate or note
from the Chief Instructor confirming their competence to sail a
dinghy unsupervised in normal conditions. This will be entered into
a Register by the Organiser.
-
Dinghies designed to be single-handers may be sailed
by only one person at a time.
-
Those wishing to use Club dinghies will do so on a
“first come, first served” basis. Sailors are expected to agree
dinghy allocation between themselves – it may be necessary to swap
at “half-time” so that everyone has a chance to sail. For this
reason the charge is less than for use of Club dinghies at other
times.
If there is sufficient demand, a few sessions of supervised sailing in
Club dinghies will be run on Sunday mornings. This will not be formal
training, but an instructor will be present to assist. There will, of
course, be Safety Boat cover. Anyone interested in this should contact
Helen or Richard Jenner.
Friday 30 May and 27 June will be “Have-a-Go” sessions and
publicised as such. On these evenings priority will be given to
newcomers and extra help will be scheduled.
USE OF CLUB
DINGHIES
With the exception of Friday Club evenings
or when training courses are running,
club dinghies may be used by ‘full’ members (ie Family, Ordinary,
Student or Junior members) for sailing at Fortrose provided safety
boat cover is available. Members wishing to use club dinghies must
either:
