YACHTS AND CRUISERS 2008
CRANE-IN Provisionally
Saturday 19 April and 3 May
This is obviously heavily dependent on the weather and the ability to lay
moorings. The Cruiser Fleet Captain and Harbourmaster coordinate the event.
Please remove cradles and trailers as soon as possible after crane-in.
REGATTA
There will be two days of open cruiser racing at the Clubs annual Regatta on
2/3 August.
CRUISES IN COMPANY
Several dates have been set aside for cruising in company. Timings and
destinations are open to final decision in the days prior to the trip when
likely weather conditions are known. These cruises may not involve sailing
in close formation but are intended to provide a social environment once we
reach our destination. Those interested should contact Roxby Robson (01381
620028) or Mike Burns (01381 620517).
RULES FOR THE CRUISERSCOPE TROPHY
The Cruiserscope Trophy is awarded for the cruising log judged by a
Sailing Subcommittee to be the best that year. Entrants must submit their
logs by the AGM.
THE JIMMY MUNRO SHIELD
The race for this trophy will be from Cromarty back to Chanonry on
conclusion of one of the neighbouring Club’s events.
BLACK ISLE CHALLENGE CUP
Saturday 17 May
This event provides a lengthy race for cruisers around the navigation
buoys in the Firth, competing for the Black Isle Challenge Cup. The course
will be decided on the day depending on tide and weather conditions.
NEIGHBOURING CLUBS’ YACHT AND CRUISER
EVENTS
The Club participates in an informal network called the Inner Moray
Firth Keelboat Initiative. We try to support one another by participating in
each other’s regattas and always receive a very warm welcome from our
neighbours.
Findhorn are organising cruiser racing
coupled with an evening social on 5th May.
Nairn will hold their regatta in Association with the Nairn Harbour Fest on
2/3 June.
The Moray Firth Cruiser Race is always a popular event – 30th June
Cromarty have a one day regatta on July 28th
Invergordon have a two day regatta on 18th / 19th August
If you want to know more about these events
contact Roxby Robson (01381 620028) - follow this
link for the calendar.
“WISP”
The club owns a 17 foot keelboat ‘Wisp’. A
‘Leisure 17’ she is an ideal boat for 2-3 persons to take a spin round
Chanonry Point to see the dolphins. She is a bilge keeler and is equipped
with an outboard engine. There is more information on the Leisure 17 class
at www.leisureowners.org.uk
Last season she was kept in the harbour but
tidal constraints somewhat limited her use. This season she will be kept on
one of the trot moorings. WISP is available for use by any member of the
club, provided that they have attended a briefing on the rules and
procedures involved. The first briefing will be arranged for shortly after
she is craned-in.
We are also seeking volunteers:
- Who would be prepared to take
competent but inexperienced sailors on confidence building trips.
- Who would be prepared to join a roster
to ensure that she gets a safety inspection each week.
If you would like further information or
would like to volunteer contact Roxby Robson 01381 620028
