DINGHY RACING

SERIES AND FLEETS
Racing is run on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons from mid-April. Wednesday evening racing finishes at the end of August and Sunday afternoon racing ends in December. These are run as series of handicap races on an average lap time basis.
For each series of races there will be an overall winner. There are also prizes for the best performance over all the series during the season.

COURSES
Unless stated otherwise in the Sailing Instructions for specific events, the Race Officer will be responsible for designating a course suitable for the current, wind strength and direction and competitors. In addition to the start mark, “A”, and possibly an inner limit mark, there will be up to 7 buoys laid semi-permanently. 5 of these buoys are laid in a wide arc off the harbour. Additional buoys will laid inside these 5 buoys to allow the designation of a shorter course.

The Race Officer may ask the Safety Boat crew to move any of the marks to make up a suitable course. The course for the day should then be displayed on the white board in the Race Office. In order to get races started on time it is suggested that Race Officers and Safety Officers should be at the Club at least one hour before racing is due to start. Competitors should be on the water before the designated start time for the same reason.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON SERIES
There will normally be 2/3 races each Sunday afternoon set with due regard for the weather conditions and the fleet involved.

WEDNESDAY EVENING SERIES
There will be one race each Wednesday evening over a course to be set by the Race Officer with due regard to the anticipated fleet and weather conditions.

GRENVILLE’S RACE
On Sunday 27 July we are holding a race and lunchtime social event in memory of Grenville Robinson. Helen Robinson has kindly invited us to lunch at The Old Mill in Rosemarkie Bay. We will set out to race there (rules to be decided, but it will be very much a fun race) followed by lunch and a (hopefully) leisurely sail back to Fortrose. Safety cover will be provided, of course.

WINTER DRYSUIT DIEHARDS SERIES – for the ROSEHAUGH CUP
Sundays 19 October –7 December
Blow away those wintertime blues - keep sailing. This 8-week series of handicap dinghy races runs on Sundays through November and December. The races start at 1pm and there may be one or two races each day depending on the conditions and available daylight.

COLD TURKEY OPEN – for the Chanonry Cup
Saturday 27 December

Shake off those Christmas excesses by racing for the Cold Turkey Cup. The event will consist of one or two races for a single handicap class. The race will start at 12 noon.
